Cognizant’s employee-led volunteering program, Cognizant Outreach, recently held a program for visually challenged school and college children to showcase their talent. Named ‘Envision’, the day-long program was held at the Patrician College of Arts and Science, Adyar, in collaboration with Bhumi, one of India’s largest independent and youth volunteer non-profit organisations.

More than 230 vision-impaired students from schools and colleges participated in singing, dancing, oratory, radio jockeying, chess and other competitions that encourage sensory and tactile play, including clay modelling, unaided typing, and Braille reading.

Children and visitors were treated to an immersive session on how artificial intelligence and assistive devices can help the visually impaired. Winners were presented with Braille medals by Deepak Prabhu Matti, Global Head of Cognizant Outreach and Braille certificates were presented to all participants.

“Cognizant Outreach has worked extensively to improve the lives of the visually challenged by providing them access to better opportunities to grow and succeed,” said Deepak Prabhu Matti, Global Head of Cognizant Outreach. “Envision, now in its fifth year, is one such initiative meant to encourage vision-impaired children to discover their full potential.”
