Financieel Management, The Netherlands: AVP of Cognizant’s Center for the Future of Work Says Robots Enable People to Make Better Use of their Talents

“When people think of robots, they think of the ones they see in films such as C-3PO, The Terminator or Robby the Robot,” says Robert H. Brown. “Because of this we often have a dystopian vision of robotics, but the reality is less harsh.” Excerpts:

“Robots do not have a human appearance, but are just functional things. They are vacuuming the house, assemble cars or are mowing our grass.

Robots are good at performing repetitive tasks. This it better and faster than human involvement.

Currently, there is a lot of data locked into systems. Robots can access this data and link it together. Robot technology offers a higher level of process efficiency.

Thanks to the optimization of (real-time) data through intelligent process automation (IPA), analytics technology is increasingly being used to outline future scenarios. However, there is still some resistance from companies to fully engage with IPA.

Organizations fear that it is a bulky and therefore time-consuming process but they can start with intelligent process automation on a small scale through process readiness assessments.

One example is that of a retailer spending much time on invoice reconciliation that involves large amounts of human involvement each week. IPA can make this human intervention superfluous and reduce the probability of errors.

Companies have to carefully think about automation and a gradual approach is wise. IPA can be used to redesign processes, but it may take some time. In the best case scenario, there are immediate gains in efficiency.”
