U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: Cognizant’s Green IT Application Wins the Popular Choice Award at the Apps for the Environment Challenge

Cognizant’s mobile green IT application, CGSearch, won the Popular Choice Award at the Apps for the Environment challenge of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which encouraged new and innovative uses of EPA’s data to create applications that address environmental and public health issues. CGSearch enables users to know the air quality index, air pollutant levels, and energy consumption in various cities of the US, and compare that data with the corresponding data for their own city.

“Innovators from across the country have used information to help people protect our health and the environment,” said Malcolm Jackson, EPA’s Chief Information Officer. “The winners of the Apps for the Environment challenge demonstrate that it’s possible to transform data from EPA and elsewhere into applications that people can use.”

At a function held in Washington, the award was presented by Jackson to Suresh Ganesan, Assistant Vice President at Cognizant.
