Mark Greenlaw, Cognizant's Vice President of Sustainability and Educational Affairs, explains the five reasons why the CIO is well positioned to assume the role of chief sustainability officer. For one, technology is a key enabler among many of the most successful corporate sustainability programs.  In addition, the CIO is in a unique role that touches every corporate function; therefore, the CIO has the cross-functional relationships and enterprisewide visibility to enable meaningful change.  Greenlaw himself made the transition from Cognizant's CIO to his current role.
