Cognizant Vice Chairman Honored as 'IT Person of Year'

Cognizant Vice Chairman Lakshmi Narayanan was named “IT Person of the Year” for 2008 by India's venerable DataQuest magazine in recognition of the role he has played in leading and growing Cognizant and the Indian IT industry.

At a gala awards ceremony held at hotel ITC Maurya Sheraton in New Delhi on October 22, Lakshmi was lauded for building and extending Cognizant's competitive edge by continuously leveraging the company's core strengths of quality and global scale. Lakshmi joined Cognizant's senior management team in 1994, and was President and CEO of the company through 2006. He also served as chairman of NASCCOM, India's Software & Services Industry Association, in 2007 and 2008.

In his acceptance speech, Lakshmi dedicated his award to the 59,000-plus employees of Cognizant who have earned a special name for themselves in the IT industry. "One of the key reasons for Cognizant's growth has been its associates’ commitment to work, obsessive client focus, and a can-do attitude," he noted.

Attending the 16th annual awards ceremony were Sheila Dikshit, Chief Minister, Delhi, and Sir Richard Stagg, British High Commissioner, who was Chief Guest and the Guest of Honor.
