Forbes: Cognizant Vice-President of Educational Affairs Talks About the Company’s Making the Future Education Initiative

“The U.S. has long been admired for its vibrant technology industry and a culture that fosters innovation and challenges conventional thinking; however, that competitive edge now needs a new impetus,” says Mark Greenlaw, Vice-President of Sustainability and Educational Affairs at Cognizant tells TJ McCue, a Forbes contributor. “Through Making the Future, Cognizant seeks to encourage exploration, invention and the joy of learning.”

Writing about the launch of the second year of Cognizant’s U.S. College Scholarship program on October 1, the day after The World Maker Faire in New York, McCue says that what stands out is the company’s plan to award $100,000 in college scholarships (twenty $5000 scholarships) for students interested in STEM fields.

McCue notes, “Cognizant started the “Making the Future” education initiative to unleash the passion of young people in STEM disciplines by creating fun, hands-on learning opportunities. The flagship program is the Making the Future After-School and Summer Program. Cognizant seeks to develop 21st century skills like creativity, innovation, and collaboration that will create a brighter future for our children, preparing them to be tomorrow’s leaders in our global economy…The company, along with its partners, ran ten after-school and summer maker programs around the US this year.”
