Cognizant Participates in NASDAQ’s Veterans Day Opening Bell Ceremony

James Lennox, Global Chief People Officer, Cognizant, and Aaron Attermann, Program Manager, Enterprise Application Services, Cognizant, joined forces with other New York City-area veterans and employers, representing the Company at NASDAQ’s Veterans Day Opening Bell Ceremony.

Each year, in honor of Veterans Day, representative NASDAQ members visit the NASDAQ MarketSite in Times Square to support veterans hiring initiatives and to take a pledge of commitment to hire veterans during the next year. This year, former Navy Seal member, Mike Zapata, rang the Opening Bell. In addition, to celebrate the occasion, ceremony participants enjoyed a live performance of the National Anthem by the West Point Glee Club.

A former Armor Officer in the United States Army, Attermann served two tours of duty in Iraq covering 27 months and was awarded two Bronze Star Medals. As a deployed Lieutenant, he served as a Tank Company Platoon Leader and Tank Company Executive Officer. In these positions, he partnered with Iraqi Army counterparts to conduct combat operations and training of Iraqi forces. As a Captain, Attermann served leading his Battalion’s operations planning efforts and then led the Battalion Lethal Targeting efforts in Mosul, Iraq. In the planning position, he wrote operations plans for a 1,000 Soldier Battalion during the initial entry into Mosul and start of combat operations. Leading the Lethal Targeting effort, Attermann coordinated with national intelligence agencies and other American forces to find, fix, and pass targets to assault forces. Attermann graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, and received an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.

“It’s an honor to be invited to the NASDAQ to join in their Veterans Day Opening Bell Ceremony,” said Lennox. “At Cognizant, we value the leadership, loyalty, integrity and commitment to excellence instilled through participation in military service. We fully support NASDAQ’s pledge of commitment to hire veterans over the coming year and demonstrate our commitment through our national and local partnerships, job fairs, career conferences, and sponsorships. We are also proud of our Cognizant Veterans Network, an employee-led community that reflects the respect and appreciation that Cognizant has for the U.S. Armed Services.”
