The Economic Times: Cognizant’s President Says Demand Revival Appears Sustainable as Clients Spend on Cost Reduction and Innovation

“Clients are looking to simultaneously drive costs down by improving efficiency and to take those saving and invest it in innovation,” says Gordon Coburn. “Clients are also increasing their spend on SMAC (social, mobility, analytics and cloud) technologies. It is very clear that we will continue to see clients shift dollars towards innovation spend.”

“Pricing,” says Coburn, “is only one component of why a customer chooses a particular partner. What is truly important is capability like consulting, productivity, innovation, customer centricity, etc. Ultimately, the decision is not based on pricing but what is the value that you bring to the client and the combination of price, productivity and innovation.”

Throughout the year, Coburn says, the pace and scale of adoption of newer technologies has been above the expectation, especially mobility and analytics, and now increasingly in social and cloud. “It [the SMAC business] already is turning into a meaningful proportion of our revenues.”

On immigration reform legislation in the U.S., Coburn says, “We continue to work with legislators to develop the immigration reform that would be good for the U.S. economy and the clients.”
