Forbes: Cognizant’s President Says the Company is Seeing a Resurgence of Demand

“We delivered a strong message to shareholders this quarter,” says Gordon Coburn. “We took up guidance. Our strategy is working. We’re seeing a resurgence of demand.” He adds, “This is not just about companies cutting costs. We are seeing companies spending more on innovation. They are spending to increase top line growth.”

Coburn expects demand to continue in Europe as companies grapple with an ever-changing labor landscape. “New pressures in Europe have forced them to outsource,” he says.

When asked about the strong performance of the company’s retail practice, Coburn says that companies are looking to tap new customers on line by spending millions on new analytical tools designed to gauge consumer spending habits, tastes and favorite store brands. “Penetration rates in retail are still very low for us at Cognizant, so we expect to see that increase in percentage terms. We’ve seen a real surge in retail,” he says.
