CNBC TV18: Cognizant's Group Chief Executive for Technology and Operations Attributes the Company’s Industry-Leading Performance to its Customer and Employee Focus

“It is very simple, just stay focused on your business,” says R. Chandrasekaran, when asked how Cognizant grows at an industry-leading clip. “At Cognizant, we stay focused on our customers. In order to deliver well for our customers, we need good people, so we focus on people and provide an environment where they can flourish. We believe in a culture that is very empowering for people and they really enjoy what they are doing. The net result is we deliver well. Customers are happy and they trust us with more work and this keeps happening quarter after quarter.”

According to Chandrasekaran, the company expects “slight uptick in the budget” in 2014. On the company’s growth outlook for healthcare, he says, “We are quite bullish about the healthcare segment, particularly the healthcare insurance payer segment as that business is growing very rapidly. We do have some concerns about the life sciences in the pharma industry because of the patent cliff which that particular segment is experiencing, but because of Obamacare and some of the regulatory changes that are being put in place, many customers will have to change their systems and drive a lot of transformation in the way healthcare services are being delivered in the United States. We feel good about the demand coming from the healthcare segment. Healthcare has always been a strong point for Cognizant ever since we started operations in 1994. We have done very well in the healthcare segment and we continue to feel good about the growth in this sector.”
