Cognizant has announced it will source 100% renewable energy for its facilities by 2026.To do so it will engage clean energy developers and property owners to ensure 100% of its owned and leased facilities are powered by renewable energy or leveraging Energy Attribute Certificates. This supports the company’s commitment to net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
“We recognize that businesses are interdependent with the world’s social and environmental systems,” said Brian Humphries, Chief Executive Officer at Cognizant. “In the medium and long run, social and environmental issues become financial issues. Businesses can thrive only if society prospers and the natural environment is protected.”
Building on initial success in India, where more than a quarter of Cognizant's energy has come from renewable sources since 2020, Cognizant is expanding its use of onsite solar energy and is entering into new power purchase agreements with clean energy developers. It will also continue as a member of The Climate Pledge, co-founded by Amazon and Global Optimism, whose goal is to reach net-zero carbon by 2040 and meet The Paris Agreement 10 years early. Signatories to the pledge share access to technologies, best practices and innovations in supply chain enhancements.
