The Australian: Cognizant’s Director, Center for the Future of Work Says AI Will Drive the Fourth Industrial Revolution

“The workplace of the future in the Fourth Industrial Revolution will also be one of discovery, powered by only the most forward-thinking of leaders, writes Ben Pring. “Quote part 2. . By leveraging the new machine instead of working against it, businesses can imagine and bring to life entirely new products, new services, and new industries for the digital economy.” Excerpts:

“With AI and automation technology set to add $2.2 trillion to the Australian economy by 2030, the time for ignoring it has long past.

AI will enhance human ability in every field, not replace it. Everything from roads to bridges to medical machinery will be instrumented, with sensors that will be able to talk with computers, enabling faster data-driven decision-making and allowing people to act on the most urgent things first. When the decision-making capability is objective and data-driven, there are enormous benefits for people to thrive, making them of greater value to their organisation.

The critical question currently facing IT departments and CEOs is how much of their work will be automated by AI in the next five years, and it seems no one knows the answer, although figures are being bandied about that between 5 and 50 per cent of all jobs will be affected.

AI may well signal the tipping point of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, but with the right preparation, training, and planning we can ensure we are future-proofed to take advantage of the numerous benefits associated with it.”
