Cognizant has won an AI Breakthrough Award for the third consecutive year. The 2021 AI Breakthrough Awards honor the excellence, creativity, hard work and success of companies, technologies and products in the field of artificial intelligence.

Among more than 2,200 nominations from around the globe, Cognizant won the Best Natural Language Generation Platform Award for its natural language platform keyword-based text extraction and abstractive summarization solution.

Cognizant designed the solution for a large, global pharmaceutical company that could accurately extract and summarize relevant content and specific bio-medical keywords from highly technical, pre-clinical trial reports, without losing any specifics. Using a two-step process of keyword-based text extraction and summary generation with fine-tuned language models, this approach generated concise and coherent summaries, resulting in a high-level understanding of the document and the following results:

• The process enabled scientists to work seamlessly in a highly creative, flexible, and organized environment
• Approximately 30 reports have been generated in a month so far, saving a minimum of 8–10 hours of scientists’ time per report
• Overall, more than 300 hours of effort have been saved in approximately one month
