June is Pride Month, dedicated to honoring the voices, culture and history of the global lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, non-binary and intersex (LGBTQ+) community. At Cognizant, our work to promote equality and create conditions for everyone to thrive is a year-round endeavor. But creating a culture of belonging requires more than just lofty words and public commitments. It’s about the everyday actions – big and small – that we take to show up for one another. Pride gives us a chance to do just that.
During the month of June, Cognizant associates will have the opportunity to connect and learn how they can be an ally or be more involved in the LGBTQ+ community. We will hear from members of our LGBTQ+ community and their allies through blog posts, video interviews and virtual events. Topics for these events include “Bringing Your Authentic Self to Work” and “LGBTQ Inclusion in the Indian Workplace.” Cognizant associates will also participate in a fireside chat between CEO Brian Humphries and CFO Jan Siegmund.
Kicking off the month, we have released Cognizant’s Commitment Statement, a pledge to advance diversity and inclusion across the organization. Signed by our Executive Committee and our Global Heads of D&I and ESG, the commitment outlines how Cognizant will go about improving levels of diversity and create a culture in which everyone can thrive.
Additionally, the Aston Martin Cognizant Formula One™ Team will celebrate June’s Pride Month with a series of social and community initiatives to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusion. The team has partnered with Racing Pride, who will continue to provide support and resource around LGBTQ+ diversity and inclusion within the organization and the wider motorsport community.
“For Cognizant, Pride doesn’t begin and end with the month of June,” said Shameka Young, VP and Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion. “We are fortunate to have a strong community of LGBTQ+ leaders and allies in our affinity group, Embrace. These associates lead the charge in promoting equality and diversity around the globe all year long.”
