The Times of India: Cognizant Executive Director, India says PM’s launch of employee volunteering platform helps youth give back to society

“The launch of the employee volunteering platform by the Prime Minister has come at the most appropriate time. The current generation of students entering the workplace is very keen on giving back to society,” said Ramkumar Ramamoorthy. Excerpts:

"A team of techies in Cognizant on Wednesday interacted with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and briefed him about the IT company’s initiatives to improve education levels among local youth through the company’s CSR program called Cognizant Outreach.

They interacted with Modi during a town hall of IT industry heads and professionals in Delhi and other cities including Chennai and Bengaluru via teleconferencing.

The Prime Minister launched an app and portal called Self4Society to create a platform for the country’s corporates to work with the government on various social initiatives. Self4Society will help professionals identify various volunteering opportunities for social causes and collaborate across companies.

Mangal Nates, a senior executive at Cognizant and a member of Cognizant Outreach who interacted with the PM, requested the government to create more technology avenues for IT professionals who are retired or abroad to be able to do their bit for educating the country’s youth through teaching sessions online via Skype and other cloud services.

In response, Modi urged NRI’s to get connected to the government’s official portals and other platforms to help upskill India’s youth.

Cognizant Outreach has over 40,000 active volunteers in India and holds a vision to make a difference in the field of education, environment, and community welfare through the employees’ volunteering efforts and voluntary monetary contributions from their salaries.”
