For 27-year-old Frederikke Bruhn Johnsen, and many veterans like her, the transition to civilian life from military service can be challenging. Though well-equipped with highly marketable skills as a result of her nine years’ experience and service, translating those skills into the private sector was daunting. Enter the Velkommen Hjem program.
Velkommen Hjem was founded by a number of companies to support veterans in their transition from the military to the civilian labor market through a well-planned course by uncovering veterans’ competencies and matching them with mentors from private companies.
As a participating company for the past two years, Cognizant’s Henrik Zeberg Jensen, Director of Digital Strategy, was matched with Bruhn Johnsen. "My relationship with my mentor is excellent, and I am so pleased to get to know Henrik,” she said. “From the very beginning, Henrik has been incredibly open about himself as a person, and it has been clear to me that he has given much of himself to our relationship.”
"We as a society and individuals have a responsibility to ensure that our young generation gets started with their careers,” said Zeberg Jensen. “This is especially the case for young people who have been deployed on behalf of Denmark and have risked their lives helping people around the world. They deserve a thank-you and a helping hand to get started. That, I think, is a good thing to support!”
