Forbes India: Authors of the Magazine’s Cover Story on Cognizant CEO Francisco D’Souza Talk in a Podcast About his Efforts to Create a Cognizant of the Future

In a podcast around Forbes India’s cover story on Cognizant CEO Francisco D’Souza in the magazine’s May 11, 2012 issue, coauthored by Mitu Jayashankar and NS Ramnath, Jayashankar, the magazine’s Associate Editor, says, “Cognizant is the fastest growing IT company now. When we spoke to Francisco D’Souza (Frank), we realized that he was looking at how to build the company for the future. That’s what our story is all about.”

Says Ramnath, the magazine’s principal correspondent: “What is truly different about Cognizant is that it is putting more force in all next-generation initiatives. In the case of Cognizant, it is the CEO himself who is driving all these initiatives…In many ways, Frank is very different from the other CEOs. He has lived in 11 countries and studied in local schools. He is a very international person who can live simultaneously in multiple time zones.”

Jayashankar adds, “One should look at the choices Frank is making today. Unlike some of the other companies, his company is doing quite well. For him, the dilemma is whether he looks after the company as it grows by leaps and bounds, or whether he takes time out of managing that and looks at the future. On a day-to-day basis, it is a very difficult choice to make whether you meet customers who are currently giving you a lot of growth, or focus your energies on building the next Cognizant. He has been able to take tough call. This is what makes the story so fascinating…Frank combines this whole orientation towards detail with a very long term strategic thinking. He is of a rare breed in the field.”
