Maker Education Initiative: Cognizant to Sponsor a Dedicated Education Area at Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 and Showcase Young Makers from its More Than 30 After-School and Summer Programs

Committed to sparking interest in STEM and the arts by providing fun, hands-on learning opportunities, Cognizant, a founding sponsor of the Maker Education Initiative, will sponsor a dedicated Education Area at Maker Faire Bay Area 2013 for parents, young people, and educators to learn more about making and its impact on the future.

Cognizant will showcase young makers from its after-school and summer programs who will teach young attendees to make and create fun things using electronics, digital fabrication tools, open source hardware, and the Scratch programming language.

Since unveiling its “Making the Future” initiative at World Maker Faire 2011, Cognizant has supported over 30 after-school and summer programs and awarded scholarships to college students across the U.S. in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) disciplines.

Mark Greenlaw, Cognizant’s vice president of educational affairs, will speak in the Education Café about a new guide titled “A Blueprint: Maker Programs for Youth”, developed with the New York Hall of Science, written for educators wishing to run youth maker programs.
