Cloud Computing Insider, Germany: Cognizant’s Delivery Head, Switzerland, Says Cloud Foundry Provides the Flexibility to Transition Between Public and Private Clouds

“As more and more organizations are building their IT strategies around a multi-cloud strategy, open-source Cloud Foundry, and its commercial derivatives, take abstraction to the next level by structuring applications into “microservices”,” says Adel Adamou. “Developers can aggregate these atomic services into more sophisticated services, deploy them and scale transparently without having to change code. This is good news all around: the faster IT delivery cycles that are made possible by Cloud Foundry are not just the domain of agile start-ups with greenfield IT landscapes.”  Excerpts:

“Larger, established players with legacy IT can also benefit. The advantages of building and running applications in the cloud include increased automation, efficiency, agility, security, resiliency and lower costs.

Being a Platform as a Service (PaaS), Cloud Foundry was designed to overcome these challenges, enabling companies to streamline and expedite the process of deploying applications, while at the same time fast-tracking its scale-up.

By making third-party assets so much easier to integrate, Cloud Foundry has the potential to change the entire dynamics of third-party distribution and integration with client assets.

Cloud Foundry is arriving on the IT scene just as organizations are developing a multi-cloud strategy.

The opportunities of Cloud Foundry are available to every enterprise. Adoption is accelerating, particularly among newer companies launching into microservices without legacy apps or other software to maintain.

Whatever the status quo, it is advisable not to jump straight into full-scale deployment, but rather experiment first, and experience the inevitable pitfalls in pilot projects with a limited reach.

To encourage widespread adoption within the company’s cloud strategy, it is best to go for the quick wins first, and adopt Cloud Foundry where there will be early, measurable results.”
