CIO Magazine, The Netherlands: Vice President and Global Head, Markets, of Cognizant Infrastructure Services Says Organizations are Becoming ‘Connected Enterprises’

“Technology, combined with changing expectations across the enterprise and its stakeholders, is forcing organizations to become more transparent, agile, and responsive—hence connected,” says Venugopal Lambu. “CIOs now have to look at architectural aspects, security, performance, resilience, agility, changing expectations of IT, and enterprise connectivity, adding more complexity to their IT infrastructure.” Excerpts:

“Today, as a strategy and a differentiator for growth, organizations are becoming ‘connected enterprises’, in which all these systems and partners are linked to each other. The CIO plays an important strategic role in today’s connected enterprise, having a holistic view of IT infrastructure and the right tools to simplify information flows and systems to ensure IT is aligned with business objectives.

Alongside simplified IT infrastructure, which supports the organization, there are four pillars organizations need to consider in their journey towards having a connected enterprise: The people, process, platform and product perspectives.

In the era of the Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Services (the cloud), building a services layer to orchestrate, manage and simplify the connected products and insights ecosystem will become a key differentiator. Ultimately, having an agile services layer facilitates innovation and enables new business models and revenue lines.

In a connected enterprise, an agile and simplified IT infrastructure enables consistent delivery of customer experience and business growth.

In today’s connected enterprise, products quickly connect back to people, processes and platforms. Ever increasing levels of data and connections, evolving contextual business transactions, and dynamic customer expectations all have an impact on the complexities within the IT landscape. Therefore, connected enterprises can stay relevant and efficient by driving the idea of the ‘simplified enterprise’ in parallel.

As such, some companies have already appointed a ‘Director of Simplification’ to enable the business to streamline its IT operations to react to market demands. As we move forward in today’s hyper-connected, fast-moving world, organizations need to decide who leads simplification and define their mandate to run better and build a progressive and agile IT infrastructure that forms the foundation of the increasingly connected enterprise.”
