Channelweb, The Netherlands: Cognizant’s Head of Innovation, Manufacturing and Logistics, Says Manufacturers Need to Build New Capabilities to Respond to Challenges Around Connected Cars

“BMW Group predicted that connecting the car to the internet will change the automotive industry more than the shift to electric and hybrid cars,” says Prasad Satyavolu. “As such, car manufacturers are increasingly working to integrate the digital world into their own, and the time has come in which we will witness the greatest developments around the connected car.” Excerpts:

“The connected car makes use of mechatronics, telematics and artificial intelligence technologies, interacting with its environment to provide greater safety, comfort, entertainment – in short a “connected-life” experience. The car becomes an information hub on the mobile Internet, with built-in intelligence to adapt to user needs and circumstances.

Advancements in in-vehicle technologies, combined with personal smart device proliferation and changing lifestyle demands, are enabling the car to extend the driving experience beyond traditional vehicle transport.

The rapid pace of development—Gartner expects that 250 million cars will be connected to the internet by 2020—will produce a technological leap that will substantially change the driving experience, future car production and drivers’ mobility.”
