Money FM 89.3, Singapore: Director of Cognizant’s Center for the Future of Work Talks About the Next Big Wave in Technology and Staying Relevant in the Future of Work

“A lot of people look at this next wave of AI (artificial intelligence) and machine learning, and they feel scared because it seems to be happening very quickly and seems to be very powerful,” says Ben Pring, Director of Cognizant’s Center for the Future of Work and co-author of ‘What To Do When Machines Do Everything’. “The real trick is to find a big wave and you put your surfboard on it and go with the wave.” Excerpts:

“There are lots of technology-related jobs in the world, but there are also a lot of non-technology jobs. AI, AR, VR, biotech — these are very big waves that are going to play out in the next 50 years and produce incredible opportunities.

The people who can do well in periods of great change are the people who are curious and want to engage…if you are not paying attention and if you are turned off by this, it is very hard to make those big career-defining decisions.

Skills are very volatile and changing quickly and you have to be nimble. The pace of change and volatility is the real story of the future of work. Businesses do have a responsibility to train and retrain to keep their talent pools up-to-date.”
