Cognizant Funds a Summer STEM Program at the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic

As part of its “Making the Future” education initiative to inspire in children—particularly girls and underrepresented minorities—a passion for STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics), Cognizant presented a $20,000 grant to the Boys and Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic to fund a summer STEM program for 60 students from 3rd through 8th grades.

A check was presented to the Club on April 7, 2015, by Steven Schwartz, Executive Vice President of Cognizant. “We believe strongly that by inspiring the next generation of makers, we can create brighter futures in our communities, brighter futures in our state, and our country,” said Schwartz, speaking at the Club’s 21st Avenue location near Cognizant’s Teaneck, New Jersey headquarters. He said last year, the company made a commitment to triple the size of its makers program by 2017.

The Boys & Girls Club of Paterson and Passaic is undertaking an ambitious STEM program that will enable scores of children to not only learn, but also to have fun while doing so. The Club serves nearly 1,000 elementary and middle school children per day and continues to look for creative ways to provide opportunities for disadvantaged children.
